They Don’t Make Pubs Like This Anymore

In Hartlepool station, there is the Rat Race Ale House micropub.

The sign says it all.  Note the barrels and the absence of the bar. As I said before, every station needs one of these.

  2. This looks completely awesome. Whereabouts is this pub? I’ve just moved to the UK from the US and have started having my very first pub experiences and I’m absolutely loving it. Glad to know that there are still pubs out there that do it ‘old school,’ as the kids would say. Thanks for sharing!

    • I haven’t found, where you are based in the UK on your blog. Hartlepool is not on your average tourist agenda, but it probably should be. It’s in the north-east of England, just south of Newcastle and Sunderland. I don’t know Sunderland, but Newcastle is worth a visit, if only to see the Georgian houses and the bridges. It has a lot more of the former than Bath.

The trouble is that proper pubs are getting hard to find, as too many are full of undrinkable beer and bad food. I’m lucky where I live, but I have several good ones in this part of London, within walking distance of my house.
